6 Reasons Not To Delay Getting Dentures

Some people may think that getting their first set of dentures feels a little intimidating, too costly or time consuming. If the thought of wearing full or partial dentures fills you with intrepidation consider the numerous BENEFITS.

  • While dentures don’t last a lifetime they are a good long term investment. Dentures fabricated from top quality material and properly cared for can last between 5 to 7 years. Regular annual recalls and check-ups with your denturist will also help extend your investment.

A set of dentures are a good ROI considering how long you have them and how much benefit they bring.

  • It’s no surprise that all food enters through the mouth. But what happens if you can’t chew your food properly? Improperly chewed and undigested food isn't absorbed by the body for all of the necessary nutrients it needs to function properly. People who don’t wear dentures often eat dull and restricted diets that consists of soft or highly processed foods that can impact on health and life expectancy.

A properly fitted set of dentures will allow you to eat the foods you love and need for a healthy lifestyle.

  • So, what’s a few missing teeth anyway? Lots. Teeth depend on each other for proper alignment and protection. When there are empty spots, teeth tend to gravitate towards them, shifting out of alignment leading to the inability to perform a proper chewing function.
There’s also the added stress on the remaining teeth which are now forced to perform harder.
  • Missing the upper front teeth can interfere with your speech, particularly when pronouncing the letters ‘s’ and ‘t’. When the tongue moves into the right position it can’t create the right sound. True you need to re-learn to speak when you first get dentures, but most things can be overcome with practice. In fact when it comes to dentures, practice really makes perfect.
  • People missing back teeth on the other hand develop a habit of nibbling on the remaining front teeth, like rabbits. Eventually the teeth wear down and the patient’s facial profile changes. The lower jaw shifts forward. The lips become thinner and the sides of the mouth begin to droop. The cheeks can then develop what’s referred to as the hollowed look. The end result is that a person’s face looks aged.

Living with missing teeth is costly. It affects eating, speaking and eventually over time, how you look.

  • And people without dentures can start to lack confidence and self-esteem. It’s almost as though they were socially embarrassed about eating, smiling or speaking in public.

Dentures might just be the investment you need to get your life back on track.

Come on in, and reclaim your smile.
